Build a landing page with Claude Code

Hands-on practice. Describe your product, let Claude Code build a one-page site, review it and ship it.

45 minutes

You have installed Claude Code, given it a first task, written a CLAUDE.md and picked a permission mode. Time to put the four lessons together on something real: a one-page landing page for a product or service you actually care about. No coding experience is needed. You describe, Claude builds, you review.

The task

Produce a single index.html (styles may be inline or in one styles.css) that presents your product: a headline, a short pitch, three benefits, one call to action and a contact line. It has to open in a browser from your disk and look fine on a phone.

Steps

  1. Create an empty folder and start claude inside it.
  2. Ask Claude to write a short CLAUDE.md first: what the product is, who the visitor is, the tone of voice, and that the page must stay a single HTML file without build tools.
  3. Describe the page in one message. Be specific: the exact headline, the three benefits in your own words, the wording of the button.
  4. Review the diff before accepting it. If a sentence does not sound like you, say so and ask for a rewrite of that sentence only.
  5. Open the file in a browser, then narrow the window to phone width. Ask Claude to fix anything that overflows.
  6. Run /cost and note how many tokens the whole exercise took.

What to check

  • The page opens from disk with no console errors.
  • Every text block is about your product, not placeholder prose.
  • Nothing is cut off at 360 px width.
  • The CLAUDE.md you wrote would make sense to a colleague who joins the project tomorrow.
